The daughter of Chief Michael Ibru, a renowned Nigerian entrepreneur, Edesiri Onatejiroghene Ibru formerly served as an Oceanic Bank International executive. Educated at Imperial College London, Edesiri Onatejiroghene Ibru now serves Midwestern Oil and Gas Company Limited as a corporate finance analyst. Midwestern is one of the largest companies in Nigeria’s oil sector and takes its corporate responsibility seriously, as demonstrated by its job creation program.

With a focus on poverty alleviation, Midwestern empowers the communities it works in to create employment opportunities for young people. Consulting with community leaders, it creates direct initiatives that benefit community residents.

These initiatives include the awarding of contracts to local suppliers, which has resulted in the employment of 200 people on an ad-hoc basis since the job creation program’s inception. Further, it engages young people directly, including bringing 40 youths onboard for drilling operations since 2010, and working with almost 100 in a variety of skills acquisition programs. Additionally, Midwestern has financed a number of public services, such as the provision of nine tricycles to the community of Umusadege, to help with transit and commuting.
